Spring Clean your Wardrobe

Spring is the best time to consider decluttering your house and making room for a change in season. Plenty of us hold on to clothes for many seasons in the hope we might want to wear them again, however more often than not they continue to take up space and could be put to better use by donating them to your local charity. Stylists suggest a cleaner wardrobe starts you off in a better mindset at the beginning of each day, you will no longer have to sift through clothes that you spent money on and never wore or clothes that no longer fit. You’ll have a selection of items that fit and are suitable to you today in-front of you.

The first step to decluttering is to bring all your clothes out and lay them on your bed, then create four piles and as you select each item of clothing ask yourself which pile is most suitable:

Pile 1
I love this item of clothing, it fits well and I wear it often – KEEP

Pile 3
These items don’t fit me any longer or my style. Donate

Pile 2
I want to keep this, but I don’t know why?

Pile 4
These items aren’t in good condition. Throw them out

Your next step is what you do with each of the four piles.

Pile 1
Return these clothes to your closet, take the seasonal more wintery items and place them at the back of your cupboard.

Pile 2
Box items up and place them in your closet for 30 days. After 30 days review these items and if they don’t belong in the keep pile.

Pile 3
Items get boxed up and put in your car to donate to your local opportunity shop.

Pile 4
Damaged items go straight in the bin.

The benefits of cleaning up your wardrobe will mean you have better access to wearable items, it will make the decision making process quicker of a morning as you won’t have to sift through clothes that are no longer wearable/suitable. You’ll also be able to help those in need that may not as be as fortunate to own clothes suitable for the season.
